ESI Corporation, a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, i.e. ESI Act [Act No. 34] of 1948, under the administrative control of Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India, has started Medical Education Institutions (Medical/Dental colleges) in the country at large.
The approved admission policy and procedure for under graduate (MBBS/BDS) Courses in ESIC Medical Education Institutions provides for ‘Insured Persons (IPs) Quota’ after allocation to “All India Quota” and the “State Government Quota”.
Three hundred and thirty two (332) MBBS seats are available for ‘Wards of Insured persons’ under ESI Scheme who meet the laid down eligibility criteria for admission to Medical Colleges under ‘Insured Persons Quota’. Six (06) of these colleges are run by the ESIC at (i) Faridabad, Haryana; (ii) Joka, Kolkata (WB); (iii) Sanathnagar, Hyderabad, Telangana; (iv) K.K.Nagar, Chennai, TN; (v).Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka; and (vi) Gulbarga, Karnataka. Three (03) medical colleges run by the respective State Governments at (i) Mandi, Himachal Pradesh; (ii) Coimbatore, TN; and (iii) Kollam (Paripally) also provide for seats for ‘Wards of IPs’ under ‘Insured Persons Quota.
Twenty Two (22) BDS seats are available for ‘Wards of Insured persons’ under ESI Scheme who meet the laid down eligibility criteria for admission at Dental College, Gulbarga, under ‘Insured Persons Quota’.
Ward of IPs selected to MBBS/BDS course in 2017-18 are required to pay tuition fee of Rs. 24,000/- per annum. Also, they are required to execute Bond at the time of admission for compulsory service to ESIC for a period of three years after successful completion of their course. In event of default of Bond condition including discontinuing the study, the bounden/sureties would have to pay a sum of Rs. 10 lakh to the ESIC.
