Gujarat Medical Education & Research Society (GMERS) is the society based medical colleges of Government of Gujarat. There are seven medical colleges in gujarat at present. Under each medical colleges there are 150 seats for MBBS. Each college has 23 NRI seats. total 161 seats are available for this year.

Rules Regulation
“NRI” means a Non-Resident Indian as defined under Income Tax Act.1961 read with Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999.
Accordingly following criteria will be used for determining the NRI status of the candidate / parent / sponsor:
Non-resident Indian is “a person who is not resident in India”. An individual is said to be resident in India if in the previous financial year, if he –is in India for a period or periods amounting in all to one hundred and eighty two days or more.
The term NRI is defined under FEMA rules and regulations as ‘A person resident outside India who is either a citizen of India or is a person of Indian origin (PIO).’ Under the Foreign Exchange management (Deposit) Regulations, 2000, which deal with banking accounts in India by NRIs, the term PIO is defined as below:
A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) is a citizen of any country other than Bangladesh or Pakistan, if he at any time held an Indian passport or he or either of his parents or any of his grandparents was a citizen of India by virtue of the Constitution of India or the Citizenship Act, 1955 or he is spouse of an Indian citizen or a person referred to in ‘a’ or ‘b’. Resident Outside India: Person resident outside India means a person who is not resident in India. Resident in India: Person Resident in India means: 1. Person Resident in India for more than 182 days during the course of preceding financial year but does not include: A) A person who has gone out of India or who stays outside India, in either case: (A.1) for or on taking up employment outside India; or (A.2) for carrying on outside India a business or vocation outside India; or (A.3) for any other purpose, in such circumstances as would indicate his intention to stay outside India for a uncertain period. B) A person who has come to or stay in India, in either case, otherwise than: (B.1) for or on taking up employment in India, or (B.2) for carrying on in India a business or vocation in India, or (B.3) for any other purpose, in such circumstances as would indicate his intention to stay in India for an uncertain period; 2. Any person or body corporate registered or incorporated in India; 3. An Office, Branch or Agency in India owned or controlled by a person resident outside India; 4. An Office, Branch or Agency in India owned or controlled by a person resident in India
Person of Indian Origin" means a foreign citizen (not being a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh and other countries as may be specified by the Central Government from time to time) if, _ he/she at any time held an Indian passport; or _ he/she or either of his/her parents or grand parents or great grand parents was a citizen of India by virtue of the Constitution of India of the Citizenship Act,1955 (57 of 1955); or _ he/she is a spouse of a citizen of India or a person of Indian origin covered under (i) or (ii) above.
The student seeking admission under NRI Dependent category should submit the affidavits duly affirmed before the Executive Magistrate, by their parents, categorically stating as to how they do not have economic means to provide for necessary fees and other expenditure for the course in question. The aforesaid affidavit should also indicate as to in what manner a student claims to be a dependent of NRI and also indicate the materials suggesting that in past also for his/her education and other related requirements, he/she was dependent on such sponsor. Any person who has sponsored a student for admission under NRI category in GMERS Medical Colleges or any other Medical College in India in the past and if the student is still studying in the MBBS Course, the sponsor cannot grant sponsorship to another student seeking admission under NRI Dependent category. The sponsor and the parents will have to submit an affidavit to this effect. One sponsor cannot sponsor more than one candidate in current academic year if found so application of all the candidates will be rejected.
The candidates/parents who are domicile of Gujarat State falling under merit list shown against item (a) below shall be considered first and thereafter candidates falling in the merit lists shown against items (b), (c) and (d) shall be considered respectively. Merit list shall be prepared and operated in the following order: (a) Genuine NRI who are domicile of Gujarat (b) Genuine NRI who are not domicile of Gujarat (c) Dependent NRI who are domicile of Gujarat (d) Dependent NRI who are not domicile of Gujarat
DOCUMENTS: Application will be considered only if it is accompanied by copies of the following certificates, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer or by a Principal of School/College. (a) School Leaving Certificate or any other authorized document clearly showing date of birth. (b) SSCE (or its equivalent examination) mark sheet, passing certificate and attempt certificate. (c) HSCE (or its equivalent examination) mark sheet, passing certificate and attempt certificate. (d) Equivalence Certificate of HSCE examination in case of students from foreign country. (e) Document related to proof of place of origin (Citizenship/P.R. Card etc.) (f) Undertaking in regards of fees from NRI Student / Parent for NRI/ NRI Children / NRI Ward Category. (g) Undertaking letter from sponsor for NRI Dependent category. (h) Affidavit before Executive Magistrate / Notary Public for NRI dependent. (i) Passport (attested color Xerox copies of all pages of Passport) of NRI / NRI Children / NRI Sponsor/Ward category which should include the period from 1-4-2014 to 31-3- 2015. If the current passport does not include this period, copy of the previous passport is also to be submitted. (j) Self addressed envelope. (k) Original transcript in case of student from foreign country.
The tuition fees US $ 76500 is for the prescribed duration of MBBS course i.e. 4½ years of the study of medical course and one year of internship. If this period is prolonged beyond 4½ years for reasons such as failures or drop at the examination, inadequate attendance etc.,
